It is impossible to make a list of the best Tom Cruise movies without mentioning an action film. For me, it never got better than Days Of Thunder. This remains one of the best racing films (if not the best) to this day.

One film that holds a special place in my heart is Cameron Crowe's Vanilly Sky. From the casting (Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Jason Lee, Kurt Russel and of course Penelope Cruz) to the soundtrack to the cinematography, I love everything about this movie.

Of course, one movie that must be mentioned on this list is Rain Main. This is an absolutely incredible film, and Dustin Hoffman delivers the role of his career. It was no surprise that this movie won the Oscar for Best Picture of the Year.

On a more comedic note, Tropic Thunder featured Tom Cruise as a ridiculous movie executive and helped put the iconic actor back in the spotlight after a few off years. Supposedly they are making a spinoff based around the character Les Grossman.

These progressions tend to contain the same types of chords, usually all of them being seventh chords, major or minor chords. The most common of these arrangements contains only seventh chords.

Now if we examine a typical blues composed of seventh chords we will find that there isn't one particular scale that contains all of the notes within these chords perfectly. The best match might be to play the mixolydian mode over each corresponding chord. This would mean mixolydian mode in the key of the I chord, played only over the I chord, mixolydian mode in the key of the IV chord, played only over the IV chord, mixolydian mode in the key of the V chord, played only over the V chord. This is one way to do it, your solo will certainly sound good over the chord changes and bright with the major 3rd.

A blues progression can also be constructed around entirely major chords in the I, IV, V pattern. In this instance, use the I major scale to solo with. It will fit perfectly with the chords, and it will difficult to hit a wrong sounding note.

When a blues progression contains just minor chords, it is best to use the natural minor scale, also known as the Aeolian mode, or the minor pentatonic scale. These scales will sit perfectly over these chords when soloing with the guitar.

Well, in a nutshell this is what gives the blues such a "bluesy" sound - the flat 5 also gives this "bluesy" sound.

If it is a seventh chord, you could use the mixolydian mode over this chord and then use the corresponding mixolydian mode over the other chords. Maybe you could just use the blues scale over the entire progression, in the key of G, you would use the G blues scale. If it is a G major or G minor as the I chord you would use the G major and the G minor scale respectively. You could also just use the G blues scale over these two progressions as well, or a combination. As you can see, there are many options available to you when soloing over the blues. I would hate to make a list of Leonardo DiCaprio movies without including Inception. Simply put, this movie is absolutely awesome. If you like films that make you think and are based on original ideas that will have you questioning scenes weeks after you view it, Inception is for you.

One other movie of his that I feel the need to mention is Revolutionary Road. This movie was directed by Sam Mendes (of American Beauty fame) and also stars Kate Winslet in a story about a frustrated couple living in 1950s suburbia.

Eventually, Micah captures some curious and inexplicable activity on video. At that point, he is persuaded of the presence of the poltergeist, which he succeeds in provoking further.

The couple eventually meets with a specialist in paranormal phenomenon, but obtain few insights. The specialist abruptly ends the consultation, asserting that he does not have the skill or ability necessary to handle this type of ghost.

Micah becomes more and more taunting with the ghost, at one point even placing a Ouija board in the room in an effort to open communications with the malevolent forces. Things continue to escalate until an abrupt and haunting climax.

The film represents a great deal of ingenuity, even if subdued, and is a great example of editorial economy that still manages to grip its audience for the duration of the story.

It is tough to make a list of the greatest films of Russell Crowe without giving praise to his performance of John Nash in A Beautiful Mind. I could not believe he did not win the Academy Award for Best Actor In A Leading Role for this film, but after wining it the previous year for Gladiator, I guess it makes sense.

One other movie that I feel is worth mentioning is Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. This movie is a little slow at times, but when the action is taking place on seas, it gets very intense, very fast.

I would have included The Quick and the Dead on this list, but I really wanted to limit it to five movies and while I loved this movie, it does not compare to the aforementioned five.

Essentially there are three common picking techniques that will be discussed in this lead guitar lesson; these are using purely downstrokes, alternate picking and sweep picking. Each technique will be best suited to a certain lead phrase, style of music and individual preferences.

Alternate picking, as the name suggests, involves the use of alternating up and down strokes. As an example, to play the C major scale or Ionian mode using three notes per string, with alternate picking, we first typically start with a downstroke on the C note, followed by an upstroke on the D note and then a downstroke on the E. We then shift to the A string where the F note is an upstroke. Next is a downstroke on the G note and then an upstroke on the A, and so on and on. The scale is completed using these up and down strokes. This alternating movement helps maintain steady time and rhythm and enables maximum speed. This lead guitar lesson aims to emphasise the importance of using this style of picking in lead guitar playing.

A style of picking less commonly used in lead guitar playing is sweep picking. This too has its advantages when implemented in a certain context of playing. This style of picking is used with one note per string with the next note on the adjacent string. I normally do not care for romantic comedies, but Terms Of Endearment, which was released in 1983, was a very enjoyable film to watch. And this is coming from a guy who does not care for the genre normally. This movie also stars Danny DeVito, Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger.

As Good As It Gets, is close to as good as it gets when discussing Jack Nicholson films. This movie also starred Helen Hunt and Cuba Gooding Jr at the peak of their respective careers. Jack plays the role of Melvin Udall to a tee.

I wanted to limit this list to five films, but feel that a six movie, Chinatown is worth mentioning. This is a great murder mystery film that was released in 1974.

Finally, in one of the best movies of the past few years, Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby has to make my list. Morgan Freeman won an Oscar for his role of the down on his luck, yet content Eddie Scrap-Iron Dupris.

Screen Gems released a new comedy/action movie called "Easy A" into theaters a couple of months ago. I just got done watching it,and I agree with the top critics' positive reviews on this one. It was great.

Emma Stone should be a comedian because she was very funny in this film. Her and good ole Amanda Bynes really delivered some good drama and comedy. It stars: Emma Stone, Penn Badgley, Amanda Bynes, Thomas Haden Church, Patricia Clarkson, Cam Gigandet, Lisa Kudrow, Malcolm MacDowell, Aly Michalka, and Stanley Tucci.

"Easy A" centered around character Olive (Stone) who,one day, gives into her friend's intense desires for her to tell her she finally had sex with a college dude. Soon enough,the rumor spreads like wildfire throughout the school. And,all of a sudden, Olive goes from being unnoticed most of the time to being constantly stared at and talked about. It also doesn't sit well with self righteous Christian freak Marianne (Bynes). She constantly tells Olive she needs to beg for forgiveness from God.

Nothing stops there. Olive eventually helps out her gay friend named Brandon from continuing to get picked on by pretending to have sex with him. From that point, the rumors got worse,but Olive embraced them,and continued to help create more of them by taking offers from other guys. As the hype of her being easy continues to perpetuate,she plays the role very convincingly by wearing skimpy outfits with the letter "A" sown into them.

However, towards the end,one final incident makes Olive want to set the true record straight. In my opinion, the movie was hysterical as it featured scenes,which showed Olive making fake sex noises with Brandon,lots of fast,witty comebacks,Olive's mother revealing that she was a whore in her high school days,and more.

The comedy just never stopped coming in this film. It was never boring,and kept me very entertained the entire time. Emma Stone is a jewel of an actress. This movie made me a fan of hers for sure. It was good to see Amanda Bynes back on the bigscreen. She was funny as well. Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley did a good job as the cool,mellow guy named Woodchuck Todd. If you wanna laugh really hard, check out this flick. I gave it an easy "A+" grade.

They consist of a simple power chord progression that really doesn't give you much to build your phrases/solos off of. Also, many of these jam tracks have the same rhythm the whole track. They don't even give you an opportunity to change your phrasing by presenting you with several rhythmic variations. When deciding how valuable a guitar jam track is, rhythmic complexity should be an important factor.

One of the key elements of a good guitar jam track is a well thought out melody. This melody can't take up all the musical space above the bass, but it should offer a more interesting upper voice to the track. The benefit of having a clear melody is that the player can hear the subtle interactions of their phrases with the melody. This can lead to a more interesting and fulfilling jam because there is a vocal quality to the leads. There is definite call and response characteristics and this puts what the guitarist is playing into more of a muscial context rather then just playing notes.

Length is a much bigger factor in determining the value of a guitar jam track then many people give it credit for. There is nothing more annoying then being in the middle of your best jam ever and having to stop because the track has ended. Yes, you can loop the track, but those that have been in this situation will understand what I mean when I say that it's not the same. An ideal length is between 3-5 minutes. A poorly recorded jam track is not worth much. If you can't hear the small nuances of the composition, you are wasting your time. Using jam tracks is supposed to be fun and help you learn, but the worse the recording is, the harder it is for you to do either. This also goes for the dynamics of the tracks and the effects of the instruments. The more detail you can hear from the track, the more you will hear when your playing is over top.
