Attributes Of A Skilled Corporate Photographer

By Nadine Phillips

All companies have an inevitable requirement for corporate photography, but looking for a good corporate photographer is a rather difficult task. Corporate photography requires a completely different set of expertise that a lot of professional photographers in the market who are skilled in other forms of photography may not possess.

Companies planning to use the services of a corporate photographer should focus on some important qualities and check the experience of the candidate to make sure that he can provide good output.

Versatility is the first quality that you need to look for in a corporate photographer as he may have to deal with a variety of tasks like covering an event, photography for promotions, or clicking appealing pictures of the company's products. A good corporate photographer should always be ready to execute all these responsibilities with haste and meticulousness.

Corporate events are one shot affairs that don't allow the photographer to plan his angles or to go for retakes, and so he cannot afford loss of his focus and concentration. A corporate event does not always follow a fixed scheme and a laid back approach on part of the photographer will reflect badly on his work. Hence, a corporate photographer should have a sharp presence of mind and should always be aware of the proceedings around him.

It is also very important for a corporate photographer to be able to make the best of the resources available with him. For example, he may have to work in a crowded hall with dim light, particularly when the corporate event is an indoor one. Even in such challenging circumstances, he must be capable of taking good quality photos.

Another critical matter that must be considered is the photographer's working style and the importance he gives to his job. It is essential for a corporate photographer to know the preferences of the company and also what the firm wants from him. A good photographer must be able to put the staff in a comfortable state of mind, so that they don't stand cold before the camera when they are needed to get a picture clicked with a smiling face at official or informal events of the firm. Besides, the photographer must not be asocial by nature or a difficult person to work with.

You should look at samples of prior work of the photographer, and not take decision on the basis of his market reputation only. It is a good idea to undertake personal interviews of candidates to get a clearer understanding of their personalities and check their suitability for the job.
