How To "Own" On CS Source Servers

By Claude Glenda Knapp

Counter Strike: Source severs, hosting the online features of the Counter Strike: Source games, are dedicated hosting servers. CSS is a first-person shooter game that is played in a team oriented, cooperative environment where a group of people work together to achieve certain objectives. For this game, the "plot summary" is basically a different twist on that old counterterrorists versus terrorists battle.

When on the Counter Strike Source server, your team has to receive more points or overall wins in order to achieve ultimate victory. Objectives comprised on the game map that were successfully completed are tallied up at the end of the battle. The team that wins the game will be the one that has more points as a result of more successfully completed objectives. In addition to a points victory, you will have to also meet certain victory conditions, dependent on the level you are one, to claim ultimate victory. The goals can be easy or difficult, from defusing a simple bomb to completing the entire level without the use of modifications or cheats of any kind.

Allowing us real time, fluid, and ultra responsive game play, game servers have become quite advanced. When you play on one of the CSS servers, your experience will be no different. There will not be loading issues or clippy "cut scenes" in games that are hosting on a high quality game server. On a CSS server, there are heavily modified aspects of the game that really personalize the experience.

You are going to want to know, once you start playing CSS, how to not only win, but dominate. The first tip is to keep a good inventory on your weapons. You must learn which weapons are best used in certain situations and it is vital to make sure you always carry enough ammunition. Do not walk into a room, guns blazing, spraying bullets every which way. User your ammunition sparingly and make sure that you always the weapon that is best suited to your specific situation.

It is important, as another little tip, to remember that this is a team game. That means you shouldn't run off on your own trying to play hero. Unlike many other first person shooter games, when you "die", you do not respawn. You will be unable to play again until the next round has started. There is always strength in numbers and you can be of better assistance to your teammates if you stay with them. Working together, in a lot of ways, makes certain aspects of the game a lot easier.

When it comes to doing something like a house raid, for example, you will have far more success working with friends than going it alone. Being with your teammates gives you more protection in the event of an attack or any other dangerous situation you might find yourself in. This is widely recognized as a key element of a good strategy when playing a cooperative game like CSS.
