Raise the Red Lantern: Striking reenactment of the life of a young concubine in'20's China, as university educated gal (Gong Li) is sent to feudal nobleman's palatial home to become his latest spouse. The relations between her and her predecessors, all of whom live on the premises. The interaction amid the ladies, the servants, and their master are brilliantly played out. The film provides an exceptional view of sex, dependability, and captivity during that time. Cast includes Gong Li, Ma Jingwu, He Caifei, Cao Cuifeng, Jin Shuyuan, Kong Lin, Ding Weimin, and Cui Zhihgang. (125 minutes,'91)

Fandango: Five college friends have one last fling before moving on to face the real world. Based on the film Proof, and enlarged to box office level under sponsorship of Steven Spielberg. Cast includes Kevin Costner, Judd Nelson, Sam Robards, Ditch Bush, and Brian Cesak. (91 minutes,'85)

Addicted to Love: This movie is a dark comedy which where we see an ex-boyfriend, and an ex-girlfriend spying on their former partners. They find themselves teamed together, with the young lady planning acts of revenge for her former man. Meg Ryan, Matthew Broderick, Kelly Preston, and Tcheky Karyo star. (1997 dark comedy directed by Griffin Dunne)

Night Must Fade: Cerebral effort to match the original, this redo is too apparent and theatrical for any credibility. Cast includes Albert Finney, Susan Hampshire, Mona Washbourne, Sheila Hancock, Michael Medwin, Joe Gladwin, and Martin Wyldeck. (105 minutes,'64)

Delirious: An astonishingly foolish comedy with a nice premise. A beleaguered soap opera author gets a conk on the head and fantasizes that he's living in his own story in a heroic role that allows him to have his way with the lady he worships in the real word. Cast includes John Candy, Mariel Hemingway, Emma Samms, David Rasche, Charles Rocket, Raymond Burr, and Dylan Baker. (96 minutes,'91)

No Love for Johnnie: Civilized research of congressmen who cares only in regards to winning the ballot. Cast includes Peter Finch, Stanley Holloway, Mary Peach, Mervyn Johns, Donald Pleasence, Dennis Cost, and Oliver Reed. (110 minutes,'61)

Vertical Limit: Peter Garett, an ex mountain climber who gave the sport up after his father died tragically while climbing, finds himself in a difficult situation. His sister and climbing partner have been trapped in a deep crevasse while attempting to climb the famous K2 peak. He is one of the only people capable of even attempting a near impossible rescue. Time is of the essence, as the trapped climbers will soon freeze to death.

Shadow Magic: In what might be hailed Chinese Paradise, the earliest days of China's film industry are depicted in this tale of a travelling Englishman. His show named "shadow voodoo" marvels and clashes all around as it turns the camcorder's eye on individuals who see themselves and their nation in a totally new way. Admirable view of early-20th-century China and the lifestyle bridging consequence only films appear to accomplish. Cast includes Jared Harris, Xia Yu, Xing Yufei, Liu Peiqi, and Lu Liping. (115 minutes, 2000)

12 Monkeys: The year is 2035 and the human race has been nearly demolished. Only about 1% of the population has survived, and life on the surface of the planet is impossible. Scientists now send a reluctant man back in time, to try and stop the whole sequence of events before they get started.
