Is This 5G Wireless?

By Daniel Stouffer

The future is today, well almost anyway. With what is anticipated to be much fanfare, the very latest to hit the world of cellular phone technology is about to be unveiled to the public. Dubbed 5G wireless, the new service is touted to revolutionize the somewhat fragmented cellular industry, especially in North America.

The status quo of today is quite exciting as it is, with a lot of interest being shown in the Google Android phone and a majorly upgraded Apple iPhone, for example. There are, however already significant improvements on the horizon and the technology will finally change the way that we look at our personal phones. 3G connectivity was a major step forward, but it appears that the 5G revolution will represent a huge leap.

When the hear about 5G, we want to know what the difference is. It appears that this service will be a hybrid, combining methods of transmission using VoIP, or voice over Internet protocol. This will allow for data to be transferred very quickly and the quality will also prevail. Transfer rates will be almost unheard of and much larger volumes may be transmitted more efficiently.

We can get excited about service enhancements, but when we see the cutting edge equipment which will be available and combine this with delivery methods we will open up a whole new world of choices. The cell phone is far from being just a talking device anymore, but in the new era it will have astonishing accessibility, flexibility and features and be truly a personal assistant by itself.

Tomorrow's 5G wireless phone will be an extremely powerful miniature computer and will be made possible due to the increased bandwidth offered by the use of the VoIP protocols. Feature-length movies will be available for download in a matter of minutes and your phone can be simply connected to your wide screen television at home to watch these movies in high-definition. The days of video rental stores are truly numbered.

Won't it be nice when those strange roaming charges and highly expensive international phone call rates go away? This is likely to happen when 5G wireless shrinks the world for us. No longer will you have to worry whether your phone will work when you are traveling overseas on vacation or whether you can match up with that strange frequency!

There will be a big challenge offered to the phone manufacturers when 5G wireless service arrives. This is sure to spark a considerable demand from the consumer of tomorrow as he or she will be looking for answers to put to an end the confusion and criticism surrounding the cellular industry for so long.

Will 5G really represent such a leap forward that it will effectively outdate 4G before it even arrives? What is next in the world of cellular technology?
