By Francis Barron

The list below has some good movie reviews. You can find a lot of information on movie downloads sites if you do a good search. A good starting point might be "Downloadable DVDs", after that try "Movie Download Sites" or "Online Music Downloads".

Sexy Beast: A retired British gangster, living the life in Spain, is visited by a fierce gangster who desires him to work one more heist. This is a trendy, aggressive, current day gangster film that has excellent acting and contains a special performance by Kingsley as the malicious perpetrator. Cast includes Ray Winstune, Ben Kingsley, Ian McShane, Cavan Kendall, Julianne White, Alvaro Monje, and James Fox. (88 minutes, 2001)

Down to Earth: A would be standup comedian is taken to heaven before his time, and then returned to life in the body of a cruel baron. Blondell adds zingy aid and it is one of Gable's most impressive early appearances. Cast includes Barbara Stanwyck, Ben Lyon, Joan Blondell, Clark Gable, Charlotte Merriam, and Charles Winninger.

The Painted Veil: In 1925 London, a socially backward bacteriologist hastily solicits an appealing lady to wed him, and she concurs. While he sees that she's been cheating, he forces her to go along with him to a remote outpost in China where there's been an eruption of cholera. Albeit meant as punishment, this experience steadily changes and deepens their relation. Cast includes Naomi Watts, Edward Norton, Liev Schreiber, and Toby Jones. (125 minutes, 2006)

Days of Glory: A genuine although trudging WW2 action film pitting the Russians versus the Nazis, memorable only as Peck's big screen debut. Cast includes Gregory Peck, Alan Reed, Maria Palmer, Lowell Gilmore, and Tamara Toumanova. (86 minutes, 1944)

Night Watch: Weak, perplexing, and endless continuation to Day Watch in which the powers of the "light" and the "dark" are at it once more. After being framed, Anton (Khabensky) tries to spare himself and his child from wicked powers in post-apocalyptic Russia. Cast includes Konstantin Khabensky, Mariya poroshina, Vladimir Menshov, Galina Tyunina, and Viktor Verzhbitsky. (132 minutes, 2006)

Shadowlands: A poignant, prudent, peacefully gratifying drama in regards to British author C. S. Lewis (Ackland), a verified bachelor, and how he is changed when he falls in love with American divorcee Bloom. Quality work is done by the megastars utilizing an outstanding award caliber script by William Nicholson. Cast includes Joss Ackland, Claire Bloom, David Waller, and Rupert Baderman. (90 minutes, 1985)

Little Shop of Horrors: An extremely amusing black comedy musical in reference to a nerd (played to excellence by Moranis) whose "abnormal" new plant brings him excellent fortune-however turns into a Frankenstein. Greene (replicating her level role) is a pleasure as his squeaky voiced heartthrob, Martin humorous as her macho boyfriend.
