Are Cell Phones Replacing Traditional Phones?

By Tell Lockhart

Few people that carry cell phones today still keep a home phone number of any kind. As cell phones become more prevalent in our daily lives having a home phone number isn't necessary anymore. You can now purchase a well functioning cell phone for every member of your family, and no longer need to have a house phone to be able to get in touch with anyone.

Most people carry their cell phone with them all the time and so you are more accessible than ever anyway. About the only reason to have a traditional phone line would be during windstorms or electrical outages where cell phones could lose service and the regular phones would not. But for most people, this is a risk they are willing to take.

When you first start looking into getting a cell phone, you have to decide what carrier to use as well as what phone you want. There is so much competition it is often confusing and sometimes, the phone you really want isn't carried by the carrier you would like to have.

The reason is that every carrier has exclusive rights to certain cell phone models. So you may need to make a choice between having your ideal phone or getting a carrier that has the best calling plan for you. You may be lucky enough to get both of your preferences.

You can even find different cell phone companies as you walk down the mall or just about anywhere else, which can be very overwhelming and confusing. You might even come across these companies multiple times in one location, such as a mall. You might find that many of these companies don't offer many individual plans, and that might make your decision all the more difficult. Many companies would benefit greatly if they would offer more custom plans that allowed you to get only the services that you need.
